What sets a Be Friendlier property apart from the rest?

Acceptance

It’s our number one goal. To accomplish this, each designated property has received Be Friendlier branded training developed by occupational therapists and parents. Designated hotels and resorts maintain compliance of all essential staff at each property to have gone through training to understand sensitivities, developmental disabilities and unique situations they may be presented with so they are equipped to help families as needed. In addition, staff is trained and familiar with all the offerings their hotel has to help make any families stay safer and more enjoyable.

Social Stories

Each Be Friendlier property has it’s own unique social story capturing the experience at their hotel or resort. A video version of these photos is produced for viewing online as well as a printable version. Not only can these be useful in deciding which property to visit but more importantly, families can look through them and be well prepared for their visit. Social stories have shown to help greatly reduce anxiety and anticipate behaviors for the upcoming trip.

Safety  Kits

For a small refundable deposit, families can choose to check out a Be Friendlier Safety kit. The items included are designed to offer extra security and safety in any sleeping room. These little things help to provide extra peace of mind while staying at a hotel. Each kit includes:

  • Door alarms (and extra batteries)
  • Visual aide “STOP” prompt signs
  • Corner guards
  • Outlet covers
  • Stove knob covers (at applicable locations)

Temporary safety tattoos

Available upon request are waterproof, temporary tattoos that allow room numbers or phone numbers to be written on in the event an individual with special needs wanders, gets lost and needs help.

Other comforts in any Be Friendlier designated property include the following:

No wait check in at registration if available and necessary.

Requests granted when possible for room assignments at the end of hallways away from the noise of elevators and other guests

Rooms are equipped with refrigerators for medication or dietary food storage.

Waterproof mattress pads are put in place during your visit to ease any worries of “accidents”.

Gluten free menu options available.
